Although Cloud Foundry is a Platform as a Service (PaaS), the Service doesn’t have to be externally hosted. Because Cloud Foundry is an open platform, it can be bought in as a managed service, deployed internally, or even squished into a single-machine development environment. For some organisations, getting rid of the responsibility for maintaining infrastructure and middleware is exactly the right thing. For others who need control over their whole stack, the cloud brings different benefits – scalability, elasticity, continuous delivery, and ease of deployment.

In this talk, we’ll discuss the factors to consider when choosing between public, private, and hybrid clouds. We’ll then demonstrate rapid development and deployment of an app to a public cloud. Finally, we’ll show how the same application can be deployed, unchanged, to a very small private cloud. How small? Suffice it to say, we’ll answer the question everybody wants to know – is it possible to wear a working cloud? Filmed at Devoxx UK 2014
